To be fair, I intended for these photos to simply show off my outfit, which I quite like. Somehow it turned into a magical-blue-light-illuminating-my-face photo-op, but whatever. Excited to spend Canada Day in the park tomorrow, soaking up the not so strong sun (20 degrees on July 1st - what?!), playing baseball and being with friends. Well, I'm back from my trip. It was more than I could ever have imagined. But until I put some photos up (my film is being processed as we speak/as I type), I'll give you a quick version of the highlight reel.

Iceland: Laying in a hot river atop the mountains, eating far too many pylsurs (an Icelandic loaded hotdog), eating far too many skyr desserts (another Icelandic specialty - okay, so we indulged), collecting a film canister of ash from the spewing volcano that no one can pronounce, the Blue Lagoon (enough said), waterfalls and close to 21 hours of daylight.

Berlin: Eating a 'Berliner' sausage and drinking a mojito at a street festival, brushing up on some very interesting history, renting bikes that would both have flat tires by the end of the day, sitting at the edge of the water in Tiergarten, schnitzel and analyzing the German language (perhaps I did learn something at university?). I definitely got that warm and fuzzy "I could live here" feeling in Berlin.

London: A picnic in Hyde Park and Topshop. It's all we had time for! Four great purchases, which I liked even more when I got home (isn't that best?). Got pair of bloomer-ish shorts in the exact print that Lara is wearing in the 3rd picture. Inspired to try wearing them like her.

The last photo is another from the shoot I did with Meg. Just fits right in with all the other models, doesn't she? Pictures soon!

Iceland Day 3

Friends! I am currently typing this from m's iPhone so it'll have to be quick. Reykjavik is absolutely beautiful! Mid-flight the ash cloud forced us to land in the north of Iceland, not very far from the Arctic Circle!! Breathtaking. Blue Lagoon was our trip today and it definitely lives up to the hype. Going to the volcano tomorrow...super excited. Oh, and it's pretty amazing that it isn't dark until after midnight. This is a really cool little city and I'm excited to post some photos when we get back. I hope the weekend was good for everyone...off to rinse the Lagoon out my hair! To my friends - fbook isn't working so you can reach me here. Lots of love!

My brother recently said to me that he 'hates' (strong word, I know) editorials shot in the studio for their sometimes cheesy and overly posed nature. My frustration with his statement could not be quelled at the time - I had scoured the pages of magazines and websites to find a satisfactory counter example, but there were none to be found (at least according to him). This week, I came across an editorial from Bon International magazine, a Swedish publication, featuring a handful of homegrown models who are styled, in my opinion, perfectly. Absent is the flat lighting and pages after pages of monotonous shots. It's an eclectic mix, in a careful way, that keeps you flipping (or scrolling) for more. I dare you, Anthony, to tell me you aren't intrigued by this one even in the slightest.

There's a 'for sale' sign outside my childhood home, perfectly placed beside a giant tree I was convinced would fall over during every thunderstorm. It's likely I'll only have two months left with that house, and this countdown has given me a particularly unshakable case of nostalgia. My hometown might be described as more on the developed side now, but to me, it will always feel like the country. I will miss the crisp, clean air, the ability to see the Big Dipper with clarity, the humming, almost purring, of the doves every spring, the slow-moving river. I'll probably even miss the sound of the lawnmowers (most folks don't have enough grass in the city to warrant the use of one). And the quietness. Oh, the quietness. There's something so intimate about a moment without disturbance or distraction.

Sappy reflection aside, you might wonder if I'll be heading to greener pastures anytime soon? The short answer: probably not - I'm pretty certain there isn't a market for want-t0-be fashion journalists where the tall grass grows. But will I long for the day when my bank account allows for a city and country home? One can dream - and hope.

1. (Quietly) celebrating the completion of my undergrad...WOOT
2. Working, for what seems like every second of my life since I finished school, to save up for #3
3. Planning - scratch that, booked! - a trip to Iceland, London and Berlin in two weeks
4. Daydreaming about what life will be like beyond school (ie. amazing, scary, inspiring, etc.)
5. Discovering that my H&M gift card has $100 on it instead of $25

6. Getting little brown freckles on my nose and cheeks
7. Taking photos of Meg and doing an interview with her - will post when complete!
8. Lusting over clothes that I cannot afford, like the ones above. Rosie makes me want a jumper.
9. Appreciating the city - Even though Zanzibar is not our crowning jewel, that last photo of Yonge St. makes it all look so beautiful.

What I will be doing more of:

Posting, writing, taking photos, relaxing, reading, eating healthier. A long list that I fully intend on doing.

Well, I've managed to put off school for a majority of this semester and
I think now I'm feeling it. But the end is near - that I can definitely feel.
Once I'm done my paper on the phonology of European and Brazilian Portuguese syllables
(if you didn't understand that, it's okay, neither do I),
I will start blogging more, sharing new pictures and writing about
attending my first fashion show from LGFW (!!!)

as much as i love the fall and winter
(the crispness in the air, the bundled outfits, the way the street is so quiet during a snowfall),
spring couldn't have come sooner.
what i am looking forward to in the next couple of weeks:

2. catching up on my magazine reading - the newest 'purple' is begging to be read

4. planning out a southern europe trip!

rodarte: beautiful. they must have been hearing some whispers that their collections weren't 'wearable.' glad they proved the critics wrong.
the row: say what you want about the olsens - their collections are professional-looking and designed by a discerning eye.
proenza schouler: i am blown away by their ability to make beautiful, androgynous pieces season after season. definitely one of my favourite design duos.

a round up of some of my favourite looks from ny fashion week.
i wasn't particularly blown away by any of the collections - they all seemed mediocre.
chunky knits, furs and school girl style dominated most of the runways.
i'm definitely looking forward to the paris and london shows.

i'm in the process of learning how to use photoshop! (thanks m.) in fact, i will
start a little project right now.

i'm currently in montreal visiting my little brother. the streets are filled with inspiring fashion.

On a side note, I've learned a couple of things this weekend:

1) Leif Vollebekk's music is incredible. Download it - I think it's the music that
plays in the back of your head all the time.
2) Some situations can really make you feel like a child and others, an adult.
3) Make sure you know someone BEFORE you wave at them. (Anna and I had to
learn this lesson hard, with very awkward consequences.)
And 4) Being absolutely silly and crazy with your good friends (and having
photographic evidence to prove it) can cure any bout of the blues.

Exhibit A: There is no longer any lipstick in that tube.

Put her in some clothes, picked up a camera, and everything just felt right. A little something the late summer inspired me to do. "Magic" hour is so beautiful when fall is just around the corner. With Quinn as the pose coach and Kendra as the new Karlie Kloss, I couldn't have asked for a better team.
